DISCOVER THE OPAL COAST
from our hotel in Wimerieux

The Hôtel Saint Jean is ideally located for exploring the Côte d'Opale. In just a few minutes, you can reach the most beautiful sites of this beautiful coastal region. Start with a walk around Cap Blanc-Nez, the wonder of the Opal Coast. Made up of chalk and marl, this cliff rises to 134 m, and on a clear day you can see the English coastline. With its limestone grasslands, the cape boasts a wide variety of plant life, including sea cabbage, bitter gentian and euphrasia.

A signposted path leads to the Gris-Nez, which, along with the Blanc-Nez, makes up the site of the two capes, classified as one of France's Grands Sites in the same way as the Gorges du Verdon and the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel. This is a truly enchanting route through cliffs, dunes and beaches. Along the way, you'll pass through Wissant, a pretty fishing village that has managed to develop while retaining the charm of small coastal towns. At Cap Gris-Nez, you can see many migratory birds, as the channel it overlooks is an important stopover point for many species. But make the most of your stay in our hotel to visit Ambleteuse and its fabulous Vauban fort, or Audresselles with its small fishermen's cottages and white longères decorated with coloured stripes.
